Tune Your Guitar in Two Easy Steps
Step 1: Allow the online guitar tuner to access the microphone on your device. Pluck a string on your guitar. The guitar tuner will recognize the note and the hand on the dial will indicate how accurately it is tuned.
Step 2: If the hand does not stop at the center, it’s an indication that the string is out of tune. To tune the string, continue plucking it while twisting the peg until the hand moves to the center of the dial.
What do the Numbers Next to the Notes on the Online Guitar Tuner Mean? Eg: D3
The numbers represent the specific octave and the letters refer to the note. The standardized tuning pitch for each string on the guitar, starting from the first string (the thinnest), is E4 B3 G3 D3 A2 E2. All the notes on the guitar can be tuned up to 4 octaves.
Adjusting the Pegs to Increase and Decrease the Pitch
Top Pegs – Turn the pegs counterclockwise (left) to increase the pitch and clockwise (right) to decrease the pitch.
Bottom pegs – Turn the pegs clockwise (right) to decrease the pitch and counterclockwise (left) to increase the pitch.

Guitar Tuning Tips for Beginners
It is best to start tuning the guitar from the low E string. It has the lowest pitch and the highest tension because of its thickness. Due to this, it adds more tension to the neck of the guitar when compared to the other strings. Tuning the E string last can cause the other strings on the guitar to go out of tune.
While tuning a guitar, it is easier to bring the string in tune from a lower pitch to a higher pitch. To tune a guitar this way, loosen the string of the guitar first then carefully adjust the peg to tighten it until the hand moves to the center of the dial to indicate the string is perfectly tuned.
Check for Accuracy
Double-check all the strings in reverse order to ensure they are perfectly tuned. If you tune your guitar starting from the first to the sixth string, then recheck the sound in reverse order to make sure the strings that were previously tuned are producing the correct sound.
