Since the creation of the first computer program or code-based endeavor, programming has profoundly impacted society. Computer programming and coding have facilitated groundbreaking developments across various fields. The availability of a wide variety of programming languages and the proliferation of cutting-edge technological resources have sparked a constant stream of innovation in the modern world.

As a result, programming is the most sought-after skill in today’s job market, not just in the IT and software industry but also in non-technical firms. Coding must be behind the scenes for your smartphone or computer to function. Coding has changed the world and the way people live.1

Digital Assistants

  • Today’s digital assistants simplify people’s lives by facilitating quick and easy access to information through simple voice commands. These gadgets utilize innovations like artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT), and the cloud. Innovative programs written in various coding are the driving force behind these innovations.
  • These devices can be used to perform a wide variety of tasks, including but not limited to: voice-activated search, email and message sending and receiving, alarm setting and control, smart-home management, travel planning (including booking seats on public transportation and air travel), obtaining directions to a specific location, and much more.2

Space Exploration

  • Since its inception, space exploration has relied heavily on computer programming. NASA is now using programming languages like Python to learn more about our planet and the universe.
  • Python is the driving force behind NASA’s cutting-edge software development. Space agency programmers use coding to create applications that can detect and characterize the types of materials present in various regions of space, predict radiation levels on the moon to ensure the safety of astronauts, and collect terabytes of data crucial to understanding the earth and its environs.
  • Today, Python is being utilized by NASA’s Artemis mission to improve understanding of the moon. A man and a woman are scheduled to be sent to the moon as part of the mission. The Apollo and Skylab space programs also utilize programming and development talents.3

Business

  • No matter how big or small, every company needs a streamlined software system to streamline its operations.
  • Software applications have diverse features and benefits, addressing a wide range of problems and enhancing users’ productivity. Coding facilitates business like nothing else, with apps and software enabling employees to interact with each other, deal with vendors, perform data entry and processing, and much more. 
  • Web browsers make it easier for users to navigate the vast expanse of the internet, while antivirus programs keep computers safe from malicious code. Communication apps bridge the gap between offices worldwide, and so on.4

Travel

  • Not very long ago, it was harder to hail a cab at a reasonable hour and price. However, things have altered dramatically with the introduction of ridesharing apps like Uber.
  • The convenience and affordability of renting a car on demand have led to the rise of several online providers. The ride can be monitored in real-time, timed, assisted when necessary, and rated and reviewed afterward. And it’s through computer languages that all these services are provided.
  • Another difficulty faced by travelers was getting to their destinations and finding suitable lodgings there. They had to check each hotel individually until they found the perfect fit.
  • There was also the issue that they occasionally had to pay more than they had hoped for or that the accommodations themselves fell below their standards. Now, thanks to vacation rental companies, one can book rooms at hotels, apartments, and B&Bs, as well as unique experiences, all from the same place.
  • Before making a reservation, vacationers can utilize the internet to look at pictures of the rooms, descriptions of the amenities, prices, and user reviews of the hotels.7,8,9

Self-driving Cars

  • It is a fast-paced world with lightning-fast technological progress. For instance, self-driving cars were little more than a pipe dream 10 years ago. Every major automaker is now testing this around the world.
  • Technical experts like engineers are essential to this procedure. Still, the programmers instruct the car to slow down in bad weather, switch on the wipers, use the turn signal, and so forth. Who will be the first automaker to release a fully autonomous car to the public? The one with the best group of coders may win.5

Coding remains at the heart of today’s most popular digital technologies, be they messaging apps or social media platforms. There are currently over 1.9 billion online websites, and they are all supported by coding.6

These days people can do anything with the click of a button, thanks to the proliferation of convenient websites and mobile applications. Do you want to book a room, order a meal, chat with friends, search for employment, schedule a cab, or watch your favorite series and movies? Coding has opened the floodgates to all possibilities.
